What is your “indulgent” meal?
My favorite indulgence is a cold IPA beer and an original Stromboli dipped in tomato sauce.
What do you think are the best skills you bring to HHAC/Ballyhoo?
42 years of group fitness experience....past GF Director at this facility, owned my own business and provided fitness classes to adult educational programs in York County and businesses. I have a very deep knowledge for GROUP classes and how to be successful at teaching them plus keeping interest high with class attendance. I love how fitness/exercise makes me feel! But most importantly, I enjoy seeing the smiles on all of our members and sharing in their personal fitness journey's!
What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working?
I am MOST happy (when not working) spending time with my husband, Eric -family, grandchildren (whom I adore with all of my heart) and of course, walking my sweet yellow lab Angel B.
Who is your favorite sports hero?
My favorite sports hero/person...I love ice skating...Dorothy Hamill. I wanted to skate like her when I grew up...but obviously, that DIDN'T happen!! It's OK......I wasn't very good at skating!!
Why have you chosen coaching/fitness as part of your career?
I chose the fitness path when I was very young......going through changes with adolescence was very hard on my body....weight gain and lack of confidence ( normal feelings, probably) so I made a decision in 9th grade to eat better, add exercise (thank you TV personal Jack LaLanne) plus I reduced my junk calories and lost 25 pounds in one summer.....this was a life changing time for me.....when I went back to school in 10th grade, many people didn't recognize me.....my confidence bloomed and I started becoming more involved in school activities. I knew at that point that I was either going to be a Physical Ed teacher (I loved gym class) or somehow follow the path of fitness.....after graduation, I worked at the York YMCA and taught swimming....from there Aerobic Dance bloomed and the rest is history, as they say!
What motivates me?
Staying healthy enough to enjoy life at it's fullest. I want to teach as long as my body allows it and that I inspire others to stay fit and keep moving.....I may not be that perky 19 year old anymore, but my heart is 100% into what I do every time I step in front of a class.....I love what I do and I will always be grateful for the MANY opportunities that I had over the years to inspire others to find JOY in moving but most importantly,the many students who not only supported my classes and became my FRIEND.
